Black Square (From the series Split Shapes)
This Black Square artist book comes out of the series called Split Shapes. In this series, I reflect on the idea of being part of something that for certain eventualities there is a separation into different individual fragments, creating a kind of puzzle where each fragment retains the potential to fit in with the other parts even if the separation is permanent.
The artist's book Black Square is also inspired by the Chinese geometric puzzle Tangram, which consists of a square shape separated into seven individual shapes, in this case each shape is made of black paper attached to acetate pages, forming a square when placed the acetate pages one on top of the other in the correct position. The square image may vary depending on the page order and can be seen through the translucent paper covered square opening on both book covers.
